For marketing executive Suzan McDowell, the online reality program “The Invested Life” was a chance to get serious about saving for her 14-year-old daughter’s college education. McDowell, owner of Circle of One Marketing in Miami, was one of seven people from around the country that TD Ameritrade and MSN Money chose to pair up with financial counselors and chronicle.

The program tackles tough issues such as merging finances after marriage and, in McDowell’s case, saving for a child’s college education. It also serves as a window into how programming will be distributed over the Internet in the future, said Larry Carroll, MSN managing editor.

“She [Suzan] was a great example of someone who was independent and who had built a wonderful life for herself,” Carroll said. “At the same time, she was at a crossroads, which is what we needed.”
